The San Luis Obispo Police Department announced on Thursday that they have identified a suspect and seized the vehicle linked to a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred in July.
On July 23, two men from Avila Beach, 87-year-old Saul Goldberg and a 73-year-old man, were riding electric bicycles southbound on South Higuera Street near the cemetery when they were struck by an "unknown vehicle." The vehicle first sideswiped Goldberg’s bike and then collided with the second bike. Both men were thrown to the ground despite wearing helmets.
Goldberg was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries on July 30. The 73-year-old sustained minor to moderate injuries.
A white four-door sedan was seen fleeing the scene, and the driver was sought for questioning.
On Thursday, police revealed they had obtained a search warrant and seized the suspect vehicle. As of the afternoon, no arrest had been made, and the identity of the suspect remained undisclosed.
The police post mentioned that further details would be provided as they become available.
